Text Box: As volunteers we give a lot to our rescued, fostered and adopted goldens, and our goldens give back to us in many unexpected ways. This article is about one of our rescued goldens, Faith, gives back to others through her work as a therapy dog.
In the summer of 2006, Faith was dumped in a shelter in Wichita, adopted, and returned because she was found to be sick with parvovirus. A GRRRR volunteer brought Faith to the vet where she spent four days in ICU and eventually recovered from the killer virus. During her ordeal, she was named “Faith.” Faith was adopted by us, the Arteagas, her foster family, in November 2006 and right away we could see that she was a special dog. GRRRR Midwest volunteers raised $850.00 by feeding lunch to hungry handlers at the Kansas City Golden Retriever Club’s Annual 2-Day Specialty event at the Douglas County Fair Grounds in Lawrence, Kansas. Burgers and hot dogs filled the empty stomachs of event goers on Saturday, June 20, 2009, while a taco bar calmed the famished crowd on Sunday, June 21. It was a successful fundraiser, and the volunteers were able to meet the breed and watch obedience trials! Thanks again to our volunteers. It wouldn’t have been possible without you.
