In late December 2000, CUR brought our Shadow (formerly Pilgrim) from the St. Louis area to our home in CT (we met up with Steve in Easton, PA). I just wanted to let everyone know that Shadow is the healthiest, most beautiful GR ever born! People constantly comment on his good natured personality, that gorgeous Golden smile, and his desire to just sit with his head in your lap and look adoringly into your eyes. We have no idea why he was loose and unclaimed in the St. Louis area, but who ever let him go missed out on the best dog ever. (Unless of course he was supposed to be a field dog because Shadow hates water and loud noises!) Anyway, he's perfect for our household and his 2 canine playmates and 2 feline palymates. Thanks for bringing him to us!

I always thought I knew what love was but I was wrong. Over the last week, our new family member (Ellie a.k.a Shiloh) has completed our family's dynamic and showed me a new level of love and commitment. I was taken with the love at first sight bug, as anyone who met me over those few days could vow, but it just keeps growing. On our daily 2-4 mile walks, passers always say that Ellie is grinning and well behaved. I like to think that she's happy here, since we have surely been blessed with her in our family. As she's curled up on my feet right now, I just cannot say enough wonderful things about Ellie. Our lives have been touched by this wonderful gift, and we cannot thank GRRRR enough for the opportunity to grow up with this wonderful Golden!! Thank you again, A doting new mom

God bless all the authorities, rescuers and everyone else involved in saving these Goldens. I pray they ALL find forever homes and get nothing but love, good food, and good health from now on, something each each and everyone of them should have had to begin with. They all deserve it. Thank you all again!!!

Hi!! I am in the process of adopting Ariel from GRRRR. I cant wait to get her home. We are really looking forward to it. I think that it is absolutely wonderful what you have done for her and so many other Goldens. I feel very proud to have been such a small part of it. I wish there were other Golden Rescues in Arkansas, but I think you all have done enough for all of us Golden Lovers! Keep up the good work GRRRR. I would recommend adopting a Golden from your Rescue to anyone. I have found GRRRR to be very forthcoming with information and helpful with this whole process. Thanks again for all you do for our wonderful Golden friends!

Just checking the website. We had a two year old Retrieve stolen from our yard 4 years ago and the pound called saying he was there. It was an older retriever whom we decided to adopt rather than someone putting him down. We have had him for 4 years and we absolutely love him. The best thing to happen to our family.

I got a golden from pat Munn 6 years ago. He unexpectedly died three weeks ago. We still have a 2 year old golden, and have adopted my son's small boxer, but the death of "Rusty" has left a void. "Rusty " was a wonderful dog, and for 6 years filled our hearts and lives.

Visiting your site since last January. Had been looking for months and happened to walk into the Independence Animal Shelter when they brought in a Golden who was in really bad shape. I waited the 7 days and went back everyday to take her out and spend time with her to let her know I was taking her home and after considerable & continual vet care I'm sure Molly is very happy as am I. She has behavior problems and was no doubt abused but I am very patient and she has a loving home. I would like to find her a sister even though I am home most of the time. She is more settled now and knows this is her home. I will start looking again soon and enjoy reading about the other Goldens and visiting your site.

Our golden retriever Zair died Oct. 5 after an epileptic seizure. He was seven years old and his beauty and sweetness attracted everyone who saw him. As the seizures affected him he went back to some of his mischievous puppy behaviors and became even more attached to us -- and we to him.

Hello.
I stumbled on your site. How it saddens me deeply to see so many Goldens in shelters. here in Australia we never seen any. They are so popular. I know Australia is small. But why so many. is it so many BYB or people just dont think befor buying them. or more to do with owners geeting themliving in apartments. I have 3 goldens pets only my last 2 passed away about 14 years old. My pup now is 11 months old. If we had goldens here in shelters i would for sure give one a home first befor going to a breeder. Keep up the good work for these poor dogs & educate people. these are supposed to be mans best friend. What has happened to some ignorant people who just done care. Sandra

My family and I just adopted Shadow from GRRRR about a month ago. I work for a kennel and we take some of the rescues and Shadow had previously been adopted and they did not work out. I immediately feel in love with him and took him home to meet the family. Everyone loved him and he seemed to love us as well. So we decided to keep him. It was the best decision we could of ever made! He is the most kind and calm man I have ever meet. I believe that god brought him to us and he was made for us all along, he just took awhile to find us. So my thanks to the gang at grrrr for making our family whole. Our family could not be happier! And yes that includes Shadow!

We currently have a male golden named Lucky. He helped bring me back to health after a health crisis. He allows us to live in his housw(hee hee) He recently had his best friend and love of his life move her name was sherri and she would come in the morning and not leave until after dark or when her owners would call for her.
We live in the country and do not have a fenced in area because of where we live. We have over a mile of woods behind our home which we walk lucky through at least 3-4 times a day the rest of the time he is usually in the house with me. We also have two elderly ladies that live with us and they adore Lucky. Recently he has put on weight and we took him to the vet who suggested that we might consider getting another dog. We would love another golden. After reading your requirements I understand that we would not meet your criteria. I commend your work and know that once you have had a golden it truly turns into a love affair.
Keep up the good work

Just love Goldens. We lost our 'Winston' this past April after 13yrs. He developed tumors in his heart and lungs. Still miss him a lot and are thinking of getting two males soon. We should have called him "Smokey the dog" due to his love of putting out cigarettes by rolling over them. We already have the names picked out for the new ones to come to our home.

We are a golden rescue family. Our first golden is a RAGOM/MN dog who has been with us for 4 yrs. We are an "adoption in process" family with AGAG in Illinois now.
My brother's family sadly just lost their golden, Murphy, after almost 10 yrs. Their 4 children (who came AFTER Murphy joined the family) are heartbroken. They were discussing adding a dog to their family after a time of mouring and I just sent them the link to your Missouri site--their home state.
I hope they contact you!

We have recently lost our beloved golden and are considering adopting from GRRR. In 23 years of marriage my husband and I have always had at least one golden retriever that we have had since a puppy, so adopting an older dog is a new consideration for us. I have been perusing your web site for about a month as we decide what to do next.

I wish you did not have the rule about fences :( Our dog only goes out to potty and that is on a leash. We take him to our farm to play but never in city limits. Goodluck in your efforts. I can not understand why anyone would ever give one of these guys up, Basil, our golden, is a dream come true we love him so very much!

I love the Golden Retriever Breed. My Dad got us Dusty, a beautiful Red Golden male back in 1970's as a family dog and I trained him to be my hearing dog. And he was wonderful in doing that for me. And I have Cerebral Palsy which has affected my hearing and speech. So I wants another hearing dog but I wants another Goldie as well. So Hopefully, I can get my daughter and Landlord to let me have one. Thanks for having this website. Job well done, GRRR friends.

I have a Golden that I need to find a home for. He is a registered, nuetered male that was born on 9/1/1997. He is healthy, well cared for, house dog, overly lovable, fed the best food and vitamins, and given much love on a daily basis. He is big, about 90 lbs, but is a beautiful Red Golden. When he retrieves the paper for me in the morning he likes to stand at the end of the driveway and show off. Although, he has on occasion gotten the neighbor's paper by mistake. He was raised with a Cairn Terrier that I also have to find a home for. We are moving to our retirement home at Table Rock Lake and they don't fit down there.

Just a short update on Poohbear, who was adopted through GRRRR in August 2000. He is now a healthy 12 year old, who still plays and thinks like a puppy. He is my angel boy, my Poohbalicious, my Poohbie.. my only boy in the world. (He still thinks his siblings are not mine.. he is mine, no one else is allowed to call me "Mom") He is the most handsome boy in the world also; not that I am biased. He still loves me with all his heart, I still love him with all of mine. He got a great bill of health from the vet, going strong and eyes are clear. He still keeps an eye on my asthma for me, and never leaves me alone when I am having an episode.
He is my heart; and I love him more than I did yesterday... I can't wait to get home and see my boy.
Thanks again to all who brought him to me; that is something I will never be able to repay! :-)

I have a 11 1/2 year old black lab/border collie mix, a 20 year old cat and a 9 month old golden/lab mix female puppy. I know that in the next year or so I will probably loose my older dog and cat and would like to prepare myself for a new companion for Savannah the puppy. I live in a 1/2 duplex and have a pretty good size yard which back up to a field which backs up to a nature trail. Savannah and I go for walks every night. Bob, the older dog gets to go for shorter walks on weekends and Savannah gets to go to the off-leash area. I feel that I have a good home and yard for my pets. I'm not sure what my timeframe should be in taking action. My feeling is that I should probably wait til Bob's gone. What is your advice ? I'd appreciate your input. Thank you - Lenora Winett

I recently cared for my brother's golden while he traveled out of the country for 3 weeks.... I'm head over heels in love with this dog. We enjoyed lots of walks, playing, petting and even swimming! I now very much want to adopt a rescued golden. I'm particularl interested in a blonde female, 1-2 years old, who has been trained to some degree. I currently reside in a dog-friendly apartment, but will be moving to a home within 6 months. My brother's dog, "Marcella," seemed found my apartment and the luscious grounds and surrounding parks to be just perfect. Please email me should you find a retriever in need of a loving and nurturing home. Also, if you need any assistance with your great organization, please let me know.

My husband and I have 3 Goldens. He had always wanted one so we bought Zoe from a breeder last year. We loved her so much that when Mister's owner didn't want him anymore, we GLADLY accepted him. And 3 days ago we adopted Rylie. :) They are our children and now we love the breed so much that we are thinking of starting a Golden Retriever rescue of our own!

We founded an animal rescue "klub" in 1995 commonly called "The Ark". Since we save animals & live on a lake it seemed approiate. We also are a 501 (c) (3).
Need to know if you take goldens when homes cannot be found. We have two boys that were found 5-5-03. We put forth every effort to find the owners with no luck. Also now we can't seem to find good homes for them. They should stay together. People in this area are good at chaining pets out or just letting them run loose. Please send me information on what it takes to put a pet with you. Thanks, Nan'C' Hartgrove, President of "The Ark"

We adopted Reba from GRR a year and a half ago. GRR named her Reba after Reba McIntyre. She is a great dog. She has fit into the family well and boy is she a swimmer. She loves for us to get the kiddie pool out we bought for her. She could lay in it all the time. She has a older brother, Sarge. She is his ears. Sarge is hard of hearing, but when he sees her running thru the house, he knows something is up. We found a great dog and Reba found a great family to love and take care of her. I'm ready to adopt another golden from GRR

I am glad to know that there is a Golden Retriever rescue organization in the midwest! I saw your letter at my vet's clinic (Chisholm Trail Animal Hospital) and decided to check out your web site. I would have liked to be a foster home for rescued Goldens if I didn't already have my hands full with 2 dogs (a Golden Retriever/English Setter mix and a miniature poodle), an indoor cat with diabetes, and several outdoor cats.

My wife and I recently lost Swayze, our male golden retriever to hemangiosarcoma. We have five dogs, one of which is a golden (Tessie). My wife is a dog groomer, and I work at General Motors (Electrician). I was browsing the Internet and searched out Golden Rescue sights. Jessica and myself both love all our dogs and I don't want to think that my searching out sights is just a
knee-jerk reaction to our losing Swayze. Living in a non-incorporated area, we have placed several dogs that were dumped. I picked up Scruffie, a mixed breed, off highway N and she was pregnant. We
successfully placed all eight puppies in good loving homes. I guess Bart caught my eye on your sight, but I also would like to inquire about any type of help you accept. I appreciate your reading this, and I also appreciate and admire what you're doing for all the Goldens you have. Tom

I admire what you people at his site are doing.
I want to set up a rescue service for homeless animals and would appreciate any help with setting up a non- profit 501c-3
Corp I believe that is what is required for accepting non profit contributions for this to be able to be done as
I have space but will need help with heating costs and food and vet care for these homeless animals.
I have time and plenty of love and care to give with my family but am on a income where
I would need to accept small contributions to help these animals.
I say small as all we want to do is keep our heads above water. not make this a
business but a labor of love.
Thanks for any help.Today is march 01, 2003

I think your website and organization provide one of the most valuable services to people and dogs alike, in that you are volunteering your time and resources into providing dogs with adequate owners to both improve the dogs life and add a family member to the people's. For many people who do not understand, or share similar heartfelt emotions towards animals, your site provides inspiration, through truly inspirational dogs, to help these people share in the joy and love that many of us have found. Golden retrievers are some of the most gifted creatures (people, animals, etc.) in this world and the love they give and recieve is a priceless gift. Thank you for all you do and for ensuring these babies receive the care, love, shelter and attention they deserve. Keep up the good work, your fans appreciate it.

Very nice web site. I was at a Pet Expo Fri. nite in Baltimore and there were a number of Golden Rescue Clubs there. I have a hard time believing that there are so many Goldens needing to be rescued. The dog I rescued is part Golden and I cannot fathom anyone willingly giving up one of these loveable bundles of joy! She is the sunshine of my life, although she has to share me with the cat SHE found in our garden, also now a part of the family. But then I guess not every one believes love is forever. Our local SPCA has a bumper sticker: Feel the Warmth of a Cold Nose! At least I feel her come bouncing on the bed before she gets her cold nose in my ear! She sure knows where to get me! Keep up the good work.

My Mom heard about your organization thru Woodland Animal Hosp. My Lab/Dobe mix passed away over Thanksgiving. I have recently adopted my sister-in-law's cat, she is a sensitive and gentle girl, so I am looking for dogs that do well with cats(and kids)like Goldens and Labs. I want a puppy (4 mos. old or less).
Presently I am staying in an apt. while I am waiting for construction to be finished at my house. Should be able to move back in in March. It's a terric house,in the Maple Ridge area. I want an indoor dog, but I also have a nice yard for a dog to run around in.
If you come across any pups (I don't care if they are purebred) that would do well in these conditions, I would certainly appreciate it if you could let me know.
Thank you for your consideration -

A golden retriever adopted me in early 2000. He had a sucessful show career and then was a stud dog for a number of years. Upon retirement he was sent to a young family. After two years the family didn't have time for Bruce and he was given back to his previous owners. At age 11 Bruce became a farm dog. Shortly after Bruce arrived back at the kennel I started working there. He would follow me around while I did chores and he was right at home with his noise buried in road apples or wading though the mudd puddles! The last two years of Bruce's life consisted of road trips including 14 hour (one way) drive to Vermont! The only Bruce I ever knew was old and gray, but a puppy at heart. In April we had to put Bruce to sleep. He went downhill very quickly. I miss my friend and I will NEVER own a dog like him again. Rest in peace my big yellow dog.

This is a wonderful site I stumbled on looking to find a free golden retriever for my 4 year old nephew who is broken hearted because the neighbor Poisoned him earlier this year and even with the medicine the vet gave them he couldn't fight it the neighbor also poisoned their Husky. Since he and I have spoken and I let him know if one of my nephews dog came up poisoned again I would see to it he payed big. We found four pieces of Chicken Between his yard and my sisters that Had been poisoned we had the chicken analized. We know he does it because he also shot my sisters cat and another neighbors cat because he hates animals. I also pointed out to him, his small children play in that area and so does my nephew and some other neighbor children and I told him I could also get him for child indangerment which I found out from DFS thats an extreme danger to children also. Calmly told him if he did change his behavior and tolerance for the neighborhood pets I would have him put under the jail and my friends mom's friend Has the power to do so being the huge animal activist and the money to back it up and I assured him she wouldn't like what she heard. Since no neighborhood pets including my nephews two other dogs have been touched so now I figure its safe for him to get another golden retriever. Its sad to know there is almost more animal haters now days rather then lovers you site is wonderful

I just put my Golden to sleep on Sat Nov.9 2002. Everyday I miss her so much. I keep expecting to see her when I get home from work. I usually went home for lunch to let her out and give her a treat. Right now I at a loss when I am at home I don't know what to do. I am currently trying to find a breeder who breeds Goldens for campanionship, not show etc. I just loved how Dolly and I could relax together or play together without a care in the world. If anyone can refer me to someone like that I would appreciate it. I would be in the market for a new little girl in the spring.

We just rescued a golden ourselves from the animal shelter in Wichita, KS. Daisy is truly a sweetheart and has blended into our family wonderfully. Our children are lapping up the love and attention Daisy gives. Kathy at El Dorado Animal Clinic told me of the Golden Retriever Rescue Group. You guys are doing great! I really enjoyed visiting your site and will return often. Goldens are sure loving, gentle and just the best dog in the world.

Just thought I'd leave an update that Scarlet, whom I adopted a couple years ago, is doing wonderful. She enjoys playing with all the other pets in my house (2 other dogs & 2 cats) and definitely is enjoying a happy healthy life. Pat might remember Scarlet, as she brought her to my house when she was skin and bones and full of fleas and ticks. Scarlet could not be any more spoiled!! Keep up the GRReat work!

Just lost my best friend to cancer..german shepard pure bred and am just absolutely lost right now...His ghost is
everywhere in our home as he was so much a part of our lives and although I realize he cannot be replaced I think our hearts need to be filled again with the love of a dog and your goldens just seem like the perfect answer...They are such beautiful dogs and we have such an abundance of love to give...we are looking for a puppy on up to a year old where it can still be trainable for companion as we like our dogs to live in with us and be a complete part of our lives in travel and all...If you know of any goldens available for sale or adoption please notify...Your sight is just awesome and I think our dog Cash would love it if we could give a home to a golden in his name...Glenda

What a wonderful, informative website this is! I truly enjoyed looking through (with aching heart and teary eyes) all of the wonderful goldens that need forever homes. Your featured dog, Jake, is absolutely gorgeous! Our golden, Annie, perked up her ears when I showed her his picture on the screen. She is the first golden in our life (have had lots of other cats and dogs), but she certainly will not be the last! What a special breed they are!

Sooners said they would forward my e-mail to you, about my missing Golden "Cinnamon". On 9/4/02 my two dogs went out before I left in the car and only one returned. (I sure wish that this dog could talk and tell me what happened to my baby). They weren't out more than 20 mins. and I was even in the yard. We live in the country. I feel that she may have been pick-up by someone, however I'm unsure. Let me know what I could do, send you a picture?? Thanks, Lauren Housel

I commend anyone in the animal rescue "business". I've rescued quite a few myself, only not for an organization. They all still live with me! (Currently I have 9 cats, 3 dogs, & 3 goats.)
I've always wanted a golden, but since my animals pick ME instead of me picking THEM, I've never had a g.r. Maybe someday one will wonder my way, as I cannot financially afford to just go out & "pick one"!
Keep up the good work!

I am a 'bad' mommy. Yesterday was Pooh's 2nd Anniversary Gotcha Day. I can't believe its been 2 years already. He was adopted through GRRRR in July 2000 and came home on August 6th. He has been a joy ever since. This is just a THANK YOU to all who brought him home! (and especially to all of you who fed him drive through, we still HAVEN'T lived that done.. "I'll have a roast beef sandwich to go please, thanks Mom". :-) )
This year Pooh has lost his 'big' sister, Megs.. I never knew that they were that close until we came home from the vet without her. I think he knew she was dying a couple of days before, because he stopped being his usual exhuberant self; became more mellow.. and just lay with her. The morning when we got home from the vet without her, he was very quiet and remained so for about a month after.
But he also became a 'big' brother this year. A Lab was dropped to us by Megs; Kaylea (pronounced Kaylee) was born the same day that Megs circle closed; I feel that Megs spirit and Kaylea's newborn spirit crossed. Megs knew we would be lonely and sent us a bundle of happy joy.
He loves his little sister, quite protective of her (I can beat her up and push her around the room, but g-d help some other animal who does.) He has learned patience, how to play without barking, snorting and sneezing his head off and to let his little sister know that she is being annoying and a brat; basically being a puppy. He shares his toys with her, and feigns being upset when she tries to take a woobie. (he will low growl, then run with the woobie, then when she chases him; he low growls again.. then gives her the toy. Then he chases her and they play for an hour.)
He is getting better in detecting when I am having an asthma attack, which is quite remarkable. He will come sit with me and not move. The first few times he did this, his staring was rather disturbing, but when I realized I was 3-4 hours away from an attack and he was trying to tell me; well he is my hero.
And tennis balls are still his PASSION. When I am feeling ill, he will give me one; but then starts going through withdrawal and I always give it back to him.
I am more madly in love with this dog then I was 2 years ago, 2 months ago or even 2 days ago. He is my heart dog; my Poohba; my boy. He is a joy and every day we spend together, I consider a gift. (He should be around for a long long time, the vet said he has a heart like a racehorse, eyes are clear, hips are great. Said if I didn't tell him he was 11 yo, he never would have known.)
So to my goofy boy, Pooh, happy gotcha day, hope you enjoy the woobies, balls and special treats for your day.
Thanks again to everyone for bringing him out to me!
:-)

I had to have my best friend put to sleep this week due to advanced cancer, a wonderful 13 year old golden retriever. I viewed your website because I'm interested in adopted a dog other than a puppy due to my full time job without being home to house train. I'm also interested in having a dog who is used to being alone since I live alone and work. I also have a house cat so must have a dog that accepts them.
I'll continue reviewing the available dogs.

My name is Edmund Marco and it's a pleasure to sign your guest book. I work for an
advertising agency in London. Our agency represents
direct marketing companies that are involved in the
marketing of products as seen on TV in England. Most of the
infomercial products come from the U.S. but then again we export
our talents as well. My brother has appeared in infomercials in the U.S.
advertising various products. I think it's hilarious that English people respond so well to American products while Americans tend to respond well to sales people who have an
English accent!

Thank you so much for the work you do. I have a Golden youngster named Shingo. She is such a wonderful friend. I rescued her when she was about 16 weeks old and had been "dumped" at the creek. I heard the familiar sounds and got out to the road in time to listen to the usual excuses. "I didn't want to take her to the pound - I didn't want her to die. I wanted to leave her near water, etc.etc". His ignorant ears were burning when he left, but I received a wonderful gift - my Shingo. She is 15 1/2 months now - and quite the beauty. I have rescued many seniors (the last was a 10-year old Yorkie whose human had died - he lived four more wonderful years with me before he passed on. I know Shingo will welcome a new companion when we find just the right one. The work you do is indeed blessed.

We have a six year old black lab but there are two golden retrievers in our family. Down the road we would like to add one to our family. Helping out a dog in need would be a nice way to go. Thanks for the information.

After our beloved Gingerbear passed from cancer last October,we thought we could never love another dog like we loved her. Were we WRONG!!! We adopted Cass and Marty from GRRR and drove 8 hours from Wisconsin to Missouri to pick them up. Our family is absolutely in LOVE with our new babies!!!!!!!!!!!! We are positive that Gingerbear knew how much pain we were in from her loss and sent us these two angels!!! We've even sent out adoption cards to all our friends showing off our new babies!! No two dogs were ever wanted so much as Cass and Marty. God bless Catherine and Kim who fostered and took care of our two loves till we were graced with them. Thank you to everyone in GRRR. You have made a family whole again!!!

We are in the process of being approved to adopt a golden.
We are very impressed with the wonderful care you give these beautiful dogs...especially the warmth and care of your many volunteers/foster families. Keep up the good work!

I LOVE GRRRMidwest! We have adopted 2 GRRR dogs and everyone is great! I just never took the time to sign the guestbook. I still check the site on occasion and am tempted, but our house is full of Goldens abnd it gets interesting when they get to chasing and playing! But I may be tempted again. Just wish I lived closer so I could Foster or be more involved.
