Update 2006: I just wanted to update you on Charlotte, who we adopted in spring of 2000.

Charlotte is now 13 years old. She is healthy and still as loving a dog I have ever encountered. I took her to obedience school a few years ago to see if I could get her certified to visit nursing homes. She did everything just perfect, but is still timid of sudden movements so she didn't officially pass. But a few Nursing homes have let her visit and the residents just love her.

I also wanted to let you know that adopting Charlotte opened my eyes to the world of rescue. I have since rescued a puppy mill survivor from Nebraska and a Lhasa Bassett mix locally whose mom was going into a domestic violence shelter. (she was supposed to be a foster, but has been here over a year so she's here to stay). I started volunteering at our local pound a year ago, taking pictures for Petfinder.com. I work closely with Golden Retrievers in Need in Cleveland; if I spot a golden at the pound I call them right away. I've also transport and short term foster for all "my" pound dogs and network with other breed specific rescues.
I just want you to know that adopting Charlotte has changed my life! Learning about rescue and educating the public about responsible dog ownership is my passion!
Here is her picture, taken a few months ago. She is with Rhett, my 8 yr old golden we got from a breeder as a puppy (before I knew about all this stuff) and Jeffery, my puppymill survivor.
