Dakota, adopted by the Phillips family.

From the new family: Dakota! We LOVE him. At 3:00 this afternoon Dennis said, "It's hard to believe he's been with us only a few hours. It seems like he's always been here"!!

And that is so true. After our long walk, Mulder showed Dakota through the house from upstairs to garage and basement, then we went into the backyard and spent considerable time exploring and playing "trump this" with one particular excretory function (I'll be surprised if the spirea survives!!). I took both of them for a walk through the wooded clearing down to the streamway path. They walked very well together and Dakota adapted to walking on "Mulder's side" (my left).

We've been assiduously following leadership and like Mulder, Dakota doesn't always want to wait but he is doing quite well for this being his first day. We had shown Mulder the pen and trained him to go inside for a treat, so this afternoon he demonstrated for Dakota. We have a darling photo of both of them lying on the floor of the pen (although only Dakota went in to stay). After church (I do children's liturgy) we came home and witnessed the Dance of Joy and took both of them to PetsMart. Dakota was "la-di-da" but since this was Mulder's first trip he of course was fascinated by everything. A couple came up and asked to pet the dogs. I explained that we had just adopted Dakota from Golden Retriever Rescue and their faces brightened, "We have two dogs from them!"

Tomorrow afternoon mom is coming over to meet her "grand-dog" and later my son and his fiance will bring Isaac, the black lab, for a sleepover. We should have lots of fun since they all have such agreeable temperaments. Like I said I will be working only half days this week so I will have lots of time to spend with Dakota. He is as close to perfect as they come, and curled up by my feet as I write this. Thank you for all the patience you showed to him, the training and leadership skills, for he is a wonderful dog. And no indoor accidents, knock wood!

We're just thrilled!
